June 3, 2008 Greening the Supply Chain Conference Reviews
As a corporate panelist, I found this to be a great event. It was a larger and more diverse crowd that I expected. This was a good start. There is still a huge gap between what the large multinationals are doing versus the small-to medium-sized firms that are grappling with how to become more sustainable. They need the tools, solutions and the templates to move forward.
David Love, Director, Solutions Private Sector Building Efficiency, Johnson Controls
I thought that the conference was very successful in achieving our objectives. I was happy to see the strong coordination between the EPA and private business to establish and share best practices. I believe there was a take-away for everyone in the room. Greening the Supply Chain is not just a "feel-good" initiative it can be a strategic advantage to compete globally.
Tom Gallagher, Plant Manager, GM Powertrain White Marsh, Maryland
The conference provided a good forum for industry, government and academia to interact on the green movement. The interaction highlighted the level of concern among the entire community on what’s at stake in balancing business profitability with protecting the environment and the potential impact of both private and public drivers.
Fred Whiton, Director of Homeland Defense Programs, Northrop Grumman
Amazing event! This was well choreographed in bringing together top business and government leaders, who traditionally might not meet. Senator Cardin did a great job of presenting the issue and the potential solutions while Mike Galiazzo did a great job to connect the dots.
-- David Feldman, Executive Director of the Livability Project.
The momentum is terrific coming out of this conference. The presenting companies such as Johnson Controls laid out some very specific ideas on their green initiatives which will encourage us to investigate how to work with key suppliers to go to next step. We also gained key insights regarding facility and supply chain sustainable improvement opportunities The timing is great. There are many changes we can bring to our new facility…..we want to incorporate this new thinking.
-- Susan Ganz, CEO of Lion Brothers.
The Greening the Supply Chain event reinforced the reality of the green movement. The room was fully engaged as business leaders were absorbing the information. It was a phenomenal day which created great momentum going forward. -- Tom Murray, Co-Director of EPA’s Green Suppliers Network.
Another home run yesterday. Congratulations! My hats off to both Mike Galiazzo and Peter Gourlay for your excellent leadership in this area. --Will Center, Advisor and Director, Business Liaison, US Executive Director's Office, The World Bank
I say every time that you cannot top this one. And, the next is always better than the last! The speakers were great. The handoffs were great. The room was great. The turnout was great. And, Peter, your close was powerful. I'm proud to be associated with the two of you and the organizations you represent.-- Cliff Ishmael, Strategic HR
There was a great sense of expectation of what could be achieved here in Maryland and it didn't disappoint. Delegates were treated to quality presentations, engaged in high level discussions and informed of practical steps that can actually boost the bottom line of most manufacturing businesses. --Andy Dubosky, President & Chairman, Maryland-China Business Council
A great example of government industry cooperation and perspective on a critical issue of interest to the entire manufacturing industry. Congratulations to RMI, MD-Asia Environmental Partnership and the Green Suppliers Network on an excellent program. --Bob Barnes, Chair, Maryland Governor’s Advisory Commission on Manufacturing Competitiveness
